Company: Pete's Auto Parts
Job Description
We are seeking a friendly person to join our team in Auto Parts Sales and Customer Service.
(Note: This job requires the applicant to be on-site for all training and all work, unfortunately the work-from-home sales positions are filled and we only need an on-site sales representative.)
We pay for 100% of your health insurance (there is a cost to add family members) we have a Monday through Friday schedule and you will not have to work more than 40 hours a week, ever. This can be a great career! There is good money to be made for successful salespeople.
Four non-negotiable requirements:
- Automotive knowledge: You should have some sort of auto experience if you are applying for this job, whether that was working at a new parts store like a NAPA or an oil change place or dealership. If you have worked on cars at a body shop or garage, even better!
- Mental math abilities: part of the job is calculating prices, and being able to add a rough percentage in your head will make you more successful in this position.
- Quick on the computer: You will be looking up car parts, messaging customers and vendors, answering phones and emails, juggling a lot of things. Your mouse needs to move fast! If you feel like you have to do things slowly to do them correctly this is not the job for you.
- Attendance: We have paid personal time (40 hrs a year) and paid vacation time (32 hrs your first year, 8 more hours each year that goes by, so 40 the second year, 48 the third, etc) but we have to have someone that shows up and does not exceed personal time. If you call in to your job more than 5 times a year, this small business is not a good fit.
If you are bilingual, that is a HUGE leg up, as we have a lot of Spanish speaking customers.
The pay range posted for this job is broad because it really depends on the person and their experience. If you have experience selling auto parts, and you meet our requirements, please apply! We have a Junior pay system that includes an hourly guarantee and commission bonuses. Senior salespeople here make 70-90k but it does take time to build up to that with your customer base and skill set. The right people for this job enjoy talking to people, enjoy closing the sale, want to keep getting better at selling warranties, and are quick to learn.
If hired, you would spend your days in front of computer screens at the front counter of our operation, mostly answering phone calls looking for parts, though there will be people who walk in, in person, and those who text or email. The biggest part of the job is quoting the customer available options and closing the sale. Most customers have an idea of our pricing because they called after seeing the part online, your job includes upselling warranties, following up on your sales and helping the customer through any issues.
82% of our sales are business-to-business, you are dealing with the same service writers and shop owners every day, they call you or text you for the parts they need to keep their business going, they are ordering parts for customer’s cars. 18% of our sales are retail, individuals looking for parts for their own car, and they may need more help determining what parts they are looking for. You help both kinds of customers, in different ways.
Another important part of the job is dealing with damaged parts – you might order a door for a customer that comes in with a dent, you’ll send the customer pictures of the part and see if they can work with it at a discount, and you’ll negotiate that discount, whatever is fair for the customer and fair to the company. If they can’t use the dented part, then you find them another one, communicating each step of the way. If you enjoy a bit of price haggling, you’ll be good at this, if you are horrified by it then this may not be the job for you – lol.
